The 2016 1 oz Vienna Philharmonic gold bullion coin is a .9999 fine gold coin containing exactly 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of pure gold. The gold coin is produced by the Austrian Mint, or Münze Österreich, which is located in Vienna, Austria, and is one of the oldest mints in Europe.
The Vienna Philharmonic was first issued by the Mint in October 1989, and its highly-stylized design celebrates the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic orchestra.
The obverse of the 1 oz gold Vienna Philharmonic coin features the Great pipe organ in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein, the Vienna Concert Hall, with the words “Republik Oesterreich” encircled above the imagery.
The reverse of the coin depicts a series of musical instruments present in the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, namely a cello, four violins, a harp, a Viennese horn and a bassoon. Both coin faces were designed by the chief engraver of the Austrian Mint.
Gold Vienna Philharmonic coins are legal tender coins in the Eurozone. The 1 oz gold Vienna Philharmonic has a face value of €100.
The Austrian Mint is fully owned by the Austrian central bank, which itself is 100% owned by the Austrian State. Therefore the Austrian Mint and its bullion products are ultimately fully backed by the Austrian government.
