The 2018 1 oz Vienna Philharmonic platinum bullion coin is a .9995 fine platinum coin containing 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of platinum. The platinum coin is produced by the Austrian Mint, or Münze Österreich, which is located in Vienna, Austria, and is one of the oldest mints in Europe.
The Vienna Philharmonic was first issued by the Mint in October 1989, and its highly-stylized design celebrates the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic orchestra.
The obverse of the 1 oz platinum Vienna Philharmonic coin features the Great pipe organ in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein, the Vienna Concert Hall, with the words “Republik Oesterreich” encircled above the imagery.
The reverse of the coin depicts a series of musical instruments present in the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, namely a cello, four violins, a harp, a Viennese horn and a bassoon. Both coin faces were designed by the chief engraver of the Austrian Mint.
The Platinum Vienna Philharmonic coins are legal tender coins in the Eurozone. The 1 oz platinum Vienna Philharmonic is legal tender at €100.
The Austrian Mint is fully owned by the Austrian central bank, which itself is 100% owned by the Austrian State. The Austrian Mint and its bullion products are therefore ultimately fully backed by the Austrian government.
