Each 1/2 oz platinum Eagle coins is minted in 99.95% platinum, and is practically pure platinum.

The obverse of the 1/2 oz platinum American Eagle Face features a closeup design of the Statue of Liberty, with the word LIBERTY encircling above.

The reverse face of the coin show an Eagle soaring in flight, the words ‘United States of America’, the coin’s weight and platinum purity, and the official face value of $50.

Platinum Eagle coins were authorized by the US Congress in 1996 and first issued in 1997, and are the only official investment-grade platinum coins produced by the US. Platinum Eagles were issued from 1997 to 2008 but not from 2009 to 2013 or in 2015.
