The kookaburra is an Australian bird famed for its loud cackling and habit of calling at dusk and dawn.

Weighing 1 kilo or 32.15 troy ozs, the coin is minted in .9999 fine silver. Each year the design of the Kookaburra on the coin changes.

With the silver Kookaburra first issued in 1990, the 2020 issue marks the 30^th anniversary in the series of the coin.

The obverse of the 1 kg coin features the 1990 design, a kookaburra perched on a tree stump, as well as the dates 1990 - 2020.

The reverse of the coin depicts a Kookaburra atop a corrugated roof in the morning sun, and inscribed below are the words ‘30^th anniversary’.

The 1 kg silver Kookaburra has a nominal face value of 30 dollars and is official legal tender in Australia.
