This 2 oz silver bullion coin featuring the White Lion of Mortimer is the eighth coin to be issued in the Royal Mint’s intriguing Queen’s Beasts Collection.

Minted in 99.99% fine silver, the White Lion of Mortimer, issued for 2020, is the second heraldic lion to be featured in the Queen’s Beasts series, the first having been the Lion of England in 2016.

The reverse of the 2 oz silver coin features the White Lion of Mortimer grasping a shield adorned with the sun’s golden rays, and the Lion is portrayed against a background of textured chainmail. This design is by the Royal Mint’s engraver Jody Clark.

The reverse face is also embossed with the coin’s weight and silver content, i.e. 2 oz FINE SILVER 9999.

The obverse of the 2 oz silver coin features a portrait of Britain’s monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, a design also conceived by Jody Clark. The obverse also shows the coin’s official face value of £5.

The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, South Wales, is one of the oldest mints in the world and is fully owned by Her Majesty’s Treasury.
