This very large coin from the Perth Mint is a 1 kg silver bullion Lunar series coin celebrating the 2019 Year of the Pig.
Within the Chinese Lunar calendar, there are 12 animals of the Zodiac (Sheng Xiao), with a different animal representing each year in the 12 year lunar cycle. Those born in the Year of the Pig are said to be loyal, friendly, trusting, and sincere.
The reverse of the 2019 1kg silver bullion Lunar coin coin features a pastoral scene of an adult pig with four piglets amid stylized foliage, with the words 'Year of the Pig' encircled below.
The obverse of the coin shows a head portrait of Australia's monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank - Broadley, the year 2019 and the coin's weight and silver purity. The 1 kg coin is non-circulating legal tender in Australia and has a nominal face value of AUD 30.
Notably, given that there is substantial silver in this coin, the percentage premium and spread on the 1 kg Lunar silver coin are lower than on smaller coins in the same series.
Perth Mint silver bullion Lunar series coins are exempt from Goods and Services tax (GST) when sold in Singapore as they qualify as Investment Precious Metals (IPM) under Singapore customs and revenue rules.
